Nita's Nest - Society Finch Babies
SOCIETY FINCH BABIES
The Dad society finch is a fawn pied and the Mom is a chocolate pied crested.  The 4 babies are four days old in the above pictures.
They are in a plastic nestbox,
about 6" x 4" x 4".
It has a hinged cover so I can see the babies without disturbing the nest too much.
As you can see, they grow rapidly.
THEY GROW SO FAST!
HERE THEY ARE 13 DAYS OLD
AND HAVE QUILLS ON THEIR WINGS AND TAIL.
ONE OF THE 4 KIDS WAS FOUND DEAD AT 14 DAYS OLD.
THE OTHER 3 CONTINUE TO THRIVE.
HERE THEY ARE 17 DAYS OLD, BETWEEN MOM AND DAD, AND LOOKING LIKE REAL BIRDS!
ALL 3 ARE CRESTED LIKE MOM, AND FAWNS LIKE DAD.
IN THE 2 PHOTOS ABOVE AND THE ONE TO THE RIGHT, THE BABIES ARE NOW 24 DAYS OLD AND OUT OF THE NEST.  THEY'RE PERFECT LITTLE FINCHES, AND BEGINNING TO EAT ON THEIR OWN.
THEY WILL SPEND ANOTHER WEEK OR TWO WITH THEIR PARENTS BEFORE THEY ARE WEANED.
